The goal of this program is to empower and support youth with the transition to work or post-secondary with skills, confidence and knowledge
The STEP Program is for
- Ages 15–30
- Not in school or employed
- Living in Durham Region
- Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person who have been granted refugee status in Canada
- Aiming toward full-time work or post-secondary
Program features
- Up to 12 PAID weeks: participants are paid during up to 4 weeks employment services and/or skills training, followed by an 8-week competitive-quality employment opportunity or support for post-secondary
- Earn certifications such as Smart Serve, WHMIS, Basic Food Safety Training, Working at Heights, First Aid and CPR
- Financial support is available
- Referrals to other John Howard Society programs and services for long-term support
- Stay connected with counsellors through phone, text, email, and zoom
