Skills Training for Employment and Post-Secondary (STEP Program)

Empowering youth with skills, confidence, knowledge, and ongoing support

For youth transitioning to full-time work or post secondary

The goal of this program is to empower and support youth with the transition to work or post-secondary with skills, confidence and knowledge

Ages 15–30
Not in school or employed
Living in Durham Region
Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person who have been granted refugee status in Canada
Aiming toward full-time work or post-secondary

Up to 21 PAID weeks: participants are paid during up to 7 weeks employment services and/or skills training, followed by a 12-week competitive-quality employment opportunity or support for post-secondary
Earn certifications such as Smart Serve, WHMIS, Basic Food Safety Training, Working at Heights, First Aid and CPR
Financial support is available
Referrals to other John Howard Society programs and services for long-term support
Stay connected with counsellors through phone, text, email, and zoom
